INTERNATION DAYS AGAINST DRUG ABUSE AND ILLICIT TRAFFICING 2023

Awareness Through Art: Rupayan Foundation Observes International Day Against Drug Abuse

On 26th June 2023, marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Rupayan Foundation organised a powerful awareness programme at Joynagar, Agartala, Tripura West, in collaboration with Dashamighat Club. The programme stood as a sincere effort to address the growing menace of drug addiction and to spread a message of hope, recovery, and social responsibility.

The event was organised with the support of Basundhara Jewellers and Aamar Graphics, and aimed to sensitise the community about the severe consequences of substance abuse while also highlighting the possibility of rehabilitation and reintegration into society.

The most impactful segment of the programme was a self-composed drama performed by the inmates of Rupayan Foundation, who themselves are bravely fighting addiction. Under the guidance and support of the Founder of Rupayan Foundation, Mr. Malyaban Chakraborty, the inmates scripted and staged the drama, drawing directly from their lived experiences. The performance poignantly portrayed the suffering, social breakdown, and inner turmoil caused by drug addiction, while also depicting the journey back to light through proper treatment, care, and emotional support. The authenticity and emotional depth of the performance left a lasting impression on the audience.

The programme was graced by several distinguished guests, including the Mayor of AMC and MLA, Mr. Dipak Majumder, Mr. D.M. Jamatia, Registrar General High court, and eminent journalist of a local daily and former Registrar of Tripura University, Mr. Sanjit Debroy. Their presence added immense value to the event. All the dignitaries appreciated and praised Rupayan Foundation’s unique and humane approach to combating addiction, especially the use of creative expression and lived narratives as tools for awareness.

In their addresses, the guests acknowledged the foundation’s consistent efforts in fighting addiction at the grassroots level and highlighted the importance of community participation, empathy, and rehabilitation-based interventions rather than stigma and exclusion.

The programme concluded with a renewed commitment to build a drug-free society, reinforcing the belief that recovery is possible when individuals are supported with compassion, treatment, and opportunities for self-expression. Through this initiative, Rupayan Foundation once again demonstrated that the fight against addiction is not just about prevention, but also about restoring dignity, hope, and purpose to lives once lost in darkness.
