Lal Bahadur Club leads anti-drug awareness campaign in Agartala

Aimed towards building a drug-free society, members of Lal Bahadur Club launched an “Anti-Drugs and Social Awareness Drive” on Sunday in their locality.

With growing concern over scattered drug dens in the city, responsible and aware citizens, particularly the youth are taking proactive measures to protect their communities.

Young residents of the Lal Bahadur area took to various known gathering spots, pasting anti-drug posters to discourage substance abuse. This symbolic yet impactful act aims to raise consciousness and steer vulnerable youth away from addiction. The campaign received broad participation, including local college students and even educators, highlighting the unity and urgency surrounding the issue.

One of the most vocal supporters was the Hostel Superintendent of a nearby government girls’ hostel. Along with hostel residents, she actively joined the campaign.

The Superintendent revealed that they had long alerted both the local club and the East Agartala Police Station about frequent drug activity around their premises. While police patrolling and occasional arrests were made, drug users often evaded capture by fleeing at the sight of police vehicles leaving the hostel residents anxious and distressed for months.

She welcomed the club’s initiative and praised the involvement of young people, emphasizing that community-led action is crucial when official efforts fall short. “Youth must come forward to reclaim their neighborhoods,” she remarked, “only then can we build an area that is truly free from the grip of drugs.”

The members of Lal Bahadur Byamagar noted, “This awareness drive is not just a protest against drug abuse it’s a call for reclaiming community spaces, ensuring safety for all, and empowering young voices to shape a healthier tomorrow. We also hope to inspire other areas to rise in collective action against narcotics”.

Malyaban Chakraborty, founder of Rupayan Foundation- a deaddiction centre in the city also joined the day’s event.
