The Tripura State AIDS Control Society (TSACS) recently hosted a high-level Multi-Stakeholder Consultation on “Combating Injecting Drug Use and HIV/AIDS in Tripura.” Held on December 9th–10th, 2024, at Hotel Polo Tower and Sonar Tari State Guest House, the event brought together government leaders, health experts, and social workers to address the state’s growing health crisis.
Insights from our Director
Our Director, Malyaban Chakraborty, was invited as a key speaker to provide ground-level insights into the addiction epidemic. Drawing from his extensive experience at Rupayan Foundation, he highlighted the devastating “ill effects” of substance abuse on Tripura’s youth, specifically the dangerous link between injecting drug use and the rise of HIV cases.
“Addiction is a complex battle, but it is one that can be won with the right support systems,” said Mr. Chakraborty. “We must shift the focus toward holistic recovery to break the cycle of dependency and disease.”
During his address, Mr. Chakraborty emphasized that rehabilitation is the cornerstone of a drug-free society. He shared how structured recovery programs—like those offered at Rupayan Foundation—provide the necessary medical and psychological intervention to help individuals reintegrate into society as healthy, productive citizens.
The consultation concluded with a unified commitment from all stakeholders to strengthen the “Nasha Mukt Tripura” mission. Rupayan Foundation remains dedicated to being at the forefront of this fight, providing hope and healing to those in need.
